| Tejas Telivala
While at the NSLS, Tejas Telivala was a Master’s
student in the Medical Physics track of Biomedical Engineering at
SUNY at Stony Brook. He obtained his Bachelors of Engineering (B.E)
degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Mumbai in India
in 2003. The degree focused a lot on design and QA of medical instruments.
Having always been interested in the human body, he came to Stony
Brook in 2004 in order to study further the biological (cells, tissue
etc) aspect of Biomedical engineering. Tejas worked as a Research
Assistant at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) at Brookhaven
National Lab under Dr Lisa Miller. He focused on using the synchrotron’s
infrared and x-ray imaging techniques to understand the relation
of metal ions (zinc, copper etc) in Alzheimer’s disease. He
also conducted in-vitro experiments to understand the behavior of
the Amyloid beta (1-42) peptide in the presence of metals which
would help in understanding the Amyloid plaque cascade hypothesis
as well as provide means to correlate the data obtained from the
tissue. In his spare time Tejas enjoys Formula1, soccer, hiking
and tennis.
